Hi,
My name is Joshua MacDonald and I am a recent graduate of McGill University (M.Arch ’21) and the University of Waterloo (BAS ’19). I am currently an OAQ Intern Architect working at Chevalier Morales in Montreal, Québec. I am the proud recipient of the Alpha Rho Chi Bronze Medal (McGill) and the Smale Fellowship (Waterloo), both in recognition of design excellence, leadership, professional merit, and the potential to play a notable role in the profession of architecture.
My graduate thesis work titled, The Social Commons Project was the recipient of the Canada Graduate Scholarship (SSHRC). The work explores the uneven distribution of social infrastructures in cities, equipping the public with tools to help better understand, identify, and co-produce design solutions that address social inequalities.
In recent years I have had the privilege to work at internationally renowned firms such as MJMA (Toronto), 3XN/GXN (Copenhagen), and Bjarke Ingels Group (New York City). With over 6 years of industry experience, I have gained invaluable exposure to new cultures and ways of designing throughout various phases of the design process. This has led me to further develop myself as an architectural designer.
I offer advanced knowledge in concept design, 3D modeling, and visualization. I continue to strengthen these skills while being a course and guest lecturer at various Canadian universities. I am a co-founder and chief operating officer at nineplusten architectural imagery, where I lead our company in business acquisition and client communication. Providing visualization services to our over dozen clients from across Canada. I have also continued to developed strong Revit skills and construction knowledge as a freelance designer working on small scale residential and mixed use buildings. Offering services from concept to construction documentation.
My passion for architecture stems from my strong desire to see how architects can create united communities. I believe architecture has the ability to address issues of social division, exclusion, and climate change.
Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or you have interest in collaborating.
Cheers,
Joshua
